Delete your resume
If you are thinking of a career in social media and have got a word doc resume. Delete it!
I had two recruitment companies chasing me to fill in a vacancy for the Social Media Assistant role. They have been bombarding me with perfectly formated (word, pdf) and well written resumes and cover letter.
What did I do with these applications? I deleted them straigth away. Wonder why is that? Here are the reasons:
- 1) Last thing I want is to see a word file attachment resume for this post (for that matter most of the jobs these days)
- 2) None of the applicant where search able on Google.
- 3) Sending a word document/ pdf resume or a cover letter is counter productive when applying for social media jobs. Let your work speak for you.

Red Tape
I spent my entire day today dealing with red tape, expecting (hoping) to get an explanation on something. It took a little over an hour and thirty six minutes just convincing someone to email me the details, which I received after five hours containing only partial information. errhhh!
Certain organisation, especially civil services are full of red tape as they define this, what surprises me is that many businesses operate red tape by choice.
Having clear procedure and policy is one thing and using these policy with iron hand is another. Your business or some part of your business might have certain element of red tape which is frustrating your customers, have you ever thought of improving on this?

Being Uncomfortable
It's uncomfortable:
- To sell someone and ask for money, revealing all the facts and figures right.
- To design your marketing efforts around organic marketing based on word of mouth and loyalty.
- To create visitors/buyers/subscribers via social media.
- To trust or empower a young and talented intern.
- To be hundred percent transparent with your customers.
- To built an permission asset.
- To put your employees before your customers
- To be a leader.
If it's not uncomfortable you are probably not doing it to your fullest.

Being nice!
Always be nice to your customer, right? Yes it is, but not always.
Many businesses get mixed up with being nice and being right. They sometime be nice to their customers for very wrong reasons:
- Being nice regardless of whether or not it is the right thing for your customer is not being nice.
- Avoiding another angry customer by being nice, but not necessarily doing the right thing is not being nice.
- Being nice just to avoid a confrontation is not nice.
- Being nice but not solving their problem.
- Being nice that might cost to the company and the customer.
How nice are you to your customers?
